OCR: Tricky met Martine in 1991. when she was a schoolgirl in Bristol. She was smoking a cigarette outside her private school when Tricky approached her and chatted her up. She soon became his singer, collaborator, and muse. Their first two singles were "Aftermath" and " Ponderosa." Tricky's first album, "MaxinQuaye," is titled after his mother, who suffered from epilepsy and committed suicide when he was four. "MaxinQuaye" is a sublime blend of rap, dub, and blues and rightfully debuted at number two in the UK charts. Tricky counts Nina Simone and old school rapper Slick Rick among his influences, and calls " MaxinQuaye" a blues record. He has worked with Bjork and whale, but dreams of working with the artist formerly known as Prince. digital culture stream EXIT
